Thanks to all who participated in my January “Art of the Frame” workshop in The Plains, Virginia. The old railroad depot in The Plains is a very special place to hold a class since, as a reminder of where you are, every few hours a rumbling freight train rolls by just a few yards away! In this workshop, we simulated the steps of actual gilding by painting on the “bole” and “gilding” with enamel. We painted on or scratched away designs, then “aged” our frames for an old-world feel.
Thanks to Jim Howe for painstakingly constructing the frames for everyone and for his expertise about frame making. Also special thanks to Jennifer Sims for organizing the classes and providing her unique studio for the class. To check out future art classes (and an actual gilding class this spring) go to the Stuart Street Atelier website.
